Chronic Disease Group Class
Chronic diseases are long lasting conditions with persistent effects. Their social and economic consequences can impact on peoples’ quality of life. Chronic conditions are becoming increasingly common and are a priority for action in the health sector.
Many people with chronic conditions do not have a single, predominant condition, but rather they experience multimorbidity—the presence of 2 or more chronic conditions in a person at the same time.
Research has proven that exercise is effective in the management of chronic disease and has the ability to reverse, or slow its’ progression.
Our chronic disease group classes are available to those with one or more chronic conditions or injuries. The class aims to focus on the individual need of the client with personalised exercise programs.
Each participant will complete an initial assessment before commending the group classes and will be prescribed an exercise program tailored to their needs and goals.
Your individualised program will be used during each group session to guide you through your exercises, under the supervision of an exercise physiologist. Throughout the program we will educate and guide you on how to exercise safely with chronic disease, and help you grow the confidence you need to incorporate exercise into your lifestyle.

Exercise Physiology for Type 2 Diabetes — Group Sessions Under Medicare

If you’re living with type 2 diabetes, you may be eligible for Medicare-subsidised exercise physiology through the Group Allied Health Services program. With a referral from your GP, you can access an individual assessment with an Accredited Exercise Physiologist, plus up to eight group sessions per calendar year — supporting up to nine sessions in total.
At ProHealth Rx, these sessions form the basis of our chronic disease group exercise program, where our Exercise Physiologists guide you through safe, evidence-based exercise designed to help manage blood glucose, build strength and fitness, and improve your overall wellbeing. To get started, speak with your GP about a referral, or contact our team and we’ll help you understand your options.
