Movement for Parkinson’s A Group Exercise Program

This program aims to empower you with the knowledge and confidence that you need to continue exercising well after the program as a permanent lifestyle change.

Facilitated by Accredited Exercise Physiologists, the 8-week Parkinson’s Disease exercise program uses the most recent clinical research to enable you to reach your best physical and mental health. Learn how to use exercise to manage your symptoms and improve your ability to complete daily tasks. Exercise plays an integral role in maintaining a healthy lifestyle, particularly for people living with Parkinson’s disease.

Regular exercise has been proven to help manage Parkinson’s disease symptoms through a process known as neuroplasticity. Exercise promotes neuroplasticity within your rain by increasing blood flow, which helps stimulate an increase in the number of neurons, their size and the connections between them.

The Movement for Parkinson’s program has been designed to help promote neuroplasticity with exercises that challenge the individual through random practice and problem solving activities.

The program promotes the following

  • Improve muscle mass and strength
  • Improve mobility, flexibility and balance
  • Improve coordination
  • Improve brain function and memory
  • Improve sleep and move
  • Reduces Parkinsons’ symptoms
  • Reduces risk of developing associated symptoms (e.g. heart disease, diabetes)

  • An initial assessment
  • Group education session
  • Home exercise programming
  • 3x group exercise sessions per week
